Preparing for Your Child's Hospital Visit - Masada Private Hospital: What You Need to Know

Coming to hospital can feel overwhelming especially for children. We hope the following information helps you and your child feel more prepared before, during, and after your stay at Masada Private Hospital.

Before You Come to Hospital

Speak with Your Surgeon

  • Make sure you have all the necessary information about your child's surgery or procedure from your surgeon.

Check with Our Business Office

  • Contact us if you have questions about:
  • Parking
  • Overnight stays
  • Other practical matters.

Who Can Stay Overnight

  • One parent or carer is welcome to stay overnight. A recliner chair will be provided for your comfort.

Talk to Your Child

  • Use simple, honest language to explain what's happening. Giving your child time to process and ask questions can help ease their anxiety.

Organise Discharge Pickup

Make sure someone is available to pick up your child when they are ready to go home.

Request Medical Certificate

Ask your surgeon or the hospital team if you need certificates for:

  • Your workplace
  • Your child's school or childcare

Your Role as a Parent or Carer – Before and After Surgery

We understand that being with your child during surgery is important. Here's what you can expect:

Before Surgery – Going into Theatre

  • You are welcome to accompany your child into the operating theatre.
  • You'll be asked to wear special theatre clothing over your own clothes, you won't need to fully change.
  • The theatre environment can be noisy and feel overwhelming, but please don't worry, our experienced nurses will be with you every step of the way to explain what's happening.
  • You can stay with your child until they are asleep.

After Surgery – Recovery Room

  • Once your child is in the recovery room and has woken up, we'll call you to come and be with them, please keep your phone with you and on silent or vibrate.
  • Please follow the guidance of our recovery nurses, they have many years of experience in caring for children post-surgery and are here to help both you and your child.

Privacy and Confidentiality

  • Everything that happens in hospital is confidential.
  • We follow strict policies to protect your and your child's privacy.

Your Child's Comfort

  • We want your child to feel safe, comfortable, and happy while here.
  • Please encourage them to let us know if they need anything at all.
